Keeping Product Cold During Gamma Sterilization

  • 1.  Keeping Product Cold During Gamma Sterilization

    Hello Everyone!

I have a dilemma that I was hoping I could get advice on.  I have a product that is sensitive to temperature that cannot exceed 110°F.  We have been sterilizing these products via gamma.  The sterilizer previously had their chamber climate controlled that kept our product cool during sterilization.  Unfortunately, we just learned that their A/C unit died and they are not looking to replace it.  Without climate controls, the chamber can reach temperatures in excess of 110°F which will damage our product.

We ship our products in sterile foil pouches which are packed into paperboard cartons.  These cartons are packed into foam coolers with gel ice packs.  The cartons are unpacked from the coolers prior to sterilization.

What options do we have to ensure that our product will not exceed 110°F when being sterilized?

    Thank you for the advice!
