University of Cincinnati 2026 Japan Culture and Packaging Travel Workshop - 5/10-5/23
We're thrilled to have recently restarted our two-week study trip to Japan centered around the unique culture of Japan/Japanese design and packaging. The trip, which had previously occurred in 2017 and 2019, has been a hugely successful partnership between the University of Cincinnati and Chiba University.
12 students and 3 professors from UC-DAAP took part in the action-packed adventure that included:
- Hands-on packaging workshops with Chiba U. and Tama Arts U. students and faculty
- Exclusive visits to packaging design firms and major brands such as P.K.G. Design studio and the Shiseido Corporation
- Visits to historical and cultural sites
- Feet-on-the-street experiential exploration into the flow of daily life in Japan
Students on the trip expanded their global packaging design perspective, learned about Japanese culture, and made new connections with our partner schools. UC has valuable and engaged partners in Chiba U. and Tama Arts U., and we look forward to many more years of cooperation and collaboration.
The trip was made possible through generous scholarship and support from the University of Cincinnati International Office, the College of DAAP, School of Design, the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) Cincinnati Chapter, and through the substantial commitment of Chiba University faculty and staff. Additionally, we are deeply appreciative for the generous support of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Blended Mobility Experience (BMX) program.
