What are the latest greatest materials out there that can replace EPS material?  But still maintain current box cuft. & is cost competitive with EPS.

Perhaps moulded pulp fibre would work for you Bruce?

    Hi Bruce,

Die cut corrugate can also be used to protect lighting.  The cube would be smaller, thus freight costs are less.

We use ISTA 3A and drop the master carton 17x, resulting in a pass.

The trick is to ensure the pieces are secured in place & cannot move around.

Molded fiber works well for some lighting applications. Draft angles need to be increased which often means carton sizes change. Prices are often higher than EPS.

    Bruce,
Situationally, honeycomb can be an effective alternative.

    Jamie,
Years ago i used honeycomb on a mirror packing application and it worked out well. At some point in time, sooner then later i will need to use a material that can replace EPS molds. A large amount of our lighting products contain glass panels and or glass globes, so very fragile products.  Ranging in all sizes from small to very large fixtures. The problem also is that all of our suppliers are off shore, China, India, Vietnam.

    Thanks,
    Bruce
