    Has anyone ever heard of a company called Ecovadis?  I have a supplier that is being asked to join this company and being told if they don't join they will be put on some kind of list that you don't want to be on regarding sustainability.  What is the deal and is this real or a scam?

    In short: Together for Sustainability (TfS) is an initiative in the chemical industry with focus on sustainability. EcoVadis is the commonly accepted auditor that those certifications go through. Similar to a ISO9001 audit through an accredited organization, but with sustainability focus.

    Not a scam, and yes, these bid-exclusion or carve-out lists that include non-compliant pkg suppliers that don't meet certain criteria may exist at some companies.

    I had a similar request, to speak and work with Ecovadis, from a company (the largest food & beverage manufacturer) that purchased from us.  Our corporate filled in all the requested details - may have declined disclosing a couple items - and we received a % grade I believe.  Above a certain grade indicated to them that the company was a Responsible Supplier (socially, environmentally, etc.)  We passed.  I do not believe we have been asked since to update any information but corporate my have received that request.  I thought they were professional and fairly easy to work with.

    Ecovadis is a world-wide organization which rates companies on their sustainability or ESG efforts.   It is a mark of pride and promotional value to be listed highly on the scale by Ecovadis.  Although there are other firms offering similar services, Ecovadis is the most recognized.  They are reputable.

    We work with Ecovadis as it is a request from several of our customers, this is a way to get a 3rd party evaluation of our sustainability and ethic progress. This is not perfect but it allows you and your suppliers to be on the same page.
