Hi Greg,
Airfreight services have their own limitations in size (LXWXH) and weight, is important to verify first these specifications with the airfreight carrier you selected for the load transportation, prior to develop the work instructions for the pallet load preparation. The other important factor is the type of product you will ship out and their environmental constrains. I have used a triple wall corrugated gaylord to move product overseas and we added an insulation foam board to protect the product from extreme temperatures, shrink wrap around the gaylord to protect against moisture agents during transit, in the first shipments we placed temperature data recorders to get data from the temperatures the load experienced during the transportation process, which temperature data will help to make an assessment of the packaging configuration we used for them. Pallets should be properly labeled and identified with special instructions for handling.
I hope this helps.
Alex.

I'm developing a best practice for our shipping departments on how to prepare a pallet load for an airfreight shipment, and I would welcome any advice or examples of the best practices that are used at your site.
