Palletizing Small Cases

  • 1.  Palletizing Small Cases

    Posted 11-30-2020 09:35 AM
I am working on a project to palletize small cases (6.5" L x 6.5" W x 9.5" H). I am concerned about the cases falling over and am working on brainstorming a few ways to make sure that they do not before we get samples in for ISTA testing (slip sheets every 2nd layer, reduced stacking height, etc.).

Does anybody have experience with this that would be willing to help me put some thoughts together?

    Best,
    Aaron

    Hey Aaron,

I haven't used these but at a Pack Expo a couple years ago I saw some slip sheets that I think were called grip sheets.  Good luck.

    Thanks.

    Hi Aaron,

If you can turn the case on its side so the 9.5" becomes the length, it will make the load more stable if the weight is not too heavy. Note that the corrugation is no longer vertical and you lose compression strength. You can get 32 cases/layer.

Aaron, besides regular slip sheets and interlocking pallet pattern, there are a number of additional steps you ca take to prevent the "Onion Peel Effect".

There are a number of companies that offer a spray glue/ adhesive that will prevent the shippers from moving as well as improved slip sheets that have an anti-slip coating (Stabulon is one such slip sheet).

Hi Aaron, the slip sheets will provide stabilization if the case weight is enough.  The spray adhesives are also very effective and should be assessed for performance, cost, labor, sustainability (material use).  here is one product I'm familiar with - its been out for many yeears.  https://www.mullerlcs.com/lock-n-pop

    Aaron,

You might also consider packing several of your small units into either
a larger master shipper or a corrugated tray to help stabalize your
load. I've had good luck with this approach in the past.

    Hey Aaron,

We have the hot melt adhesives and equipment that are used on the sheets for pallet stabilization.

Feel free to give me a ring if you’d like to discuss some ideas.

    Hi Aaron,
What is the weight of each shipper and is the product self supporting on all sides.

    Thanks,
    Jason

Aaron - I came across this a few years ago at a trade show in Germany.  This may help you.  They can send you samples.

    This is also something similar

Alternatively your supplier that provides the tier sheets may be able to add a spray adhesive that helps.  Ours did (Pratt Industries)

    Hi Aaron,

Have you considered using stretch wrap.

    Thanks,

Not sure of the quantity, but Stretch wrap is a good option, maybe in combination with V-board corners, slip sheets and top cap. Laminations also make pallet toppers.
