  • 1.  Hazmat Un Certification Packaging

    I've got a customer that has asked me to find Hazmat Un Certification Packaging. The problem is I don't know much about it and would love to know where to look to find out more.

     

    As it relates to companies that provide solutions related to Hazmat UN certified packaging I would love to know of companies that people have used to help them get the right solution for their needs.

    Depends on what they want to ship, chemicals?  Batteries?  Infectious?  You can purchase packages that are already certified through companies like labelmaster but that may not be a cost effective solution depending on the quantity they will be shipping.  Another option is to build your own package and have it tested at a DOT approved 3rd party lab.

    Here is a link to the DOT's list of 3rd party testing labs.  Most, if not all, can provide you with guidance regarding hazmat (dangerous goods) packaging requirements and design, as well as certification.  They are all over the country.

    Hi Rusty,

    ​I just noticed that Scott Bischoff listed Label Master.  I would agree with his recommendation.  They also have a certified HazMat consultant onboard that knows the regulations for IATA, DOT, and for the EU inside and out.

    I also recommend Ten-E. We work with them regularly, they are very attentive and helpful. 
    They have a testing location in High Point, NC if that is any closer to you.

    Rusty....please read HM-181 and HM-186 HAZ. MAT. regulations to fully understand regulations before selecting a third party testing facility. My clients prefer to send their internal resources to HM classes, tested and certified instead of using a third party. Remember; when a client sends their containers to a third party test site for testing the containers arrive "pre-conditioned" and containers can not have or be active HM product in container(s) due to liability and disposal (very expensive).  I am a certified HM Instructor and original technical  contributor to first edition of HM-181.
