Don Peterson has a new acronym to make awareness for all employees from Sales to Product out off the dock.
30 years in packaging business, starting as a green engineer helping run a testing lab at the U, moved on to a Fortune 500 company for five years in DFW as a designer. Moved to Austin Texas for an opportunity of starting from ground up. One GM, one engineer, one girl with coke bottle glasses reading novels and folding boxes, and one guy in the plant 1993. Brought a change of clothes to work. Go sell. Come back and design. Then build crates for missiles, box for a heart valve, or whatever product that needed packaging. All done with speed, intention, and delivery in a day or whatever was required.
Now, I manage a manufacturing plant with responsibilities from sales, engineering, customer service, production, purchasing, and customer relations for my branch.
Where is the breakdown in your organizational operation?
ATD3 (D cubed) = Attention To Detail Deficit Disorder
At all levels of our organizations, the attention to detail is a requirement from start to finish.
Point of contact with customer getting the details, sales (bring engineer/designer when needed), information to design, prototyping, first article sign-off FAI. Engineering executingdrawings and BOMs. Correct creation of Items and PN's. Pass-off to Production. Your Customer Service and Purchasing in the loop and knowledge of the end-user product is key.
Remember, it starts with Sales and it is a Team effort. Every individual in your organization to the point of delivery is Important. Either ends with a happy customer or a dissatisfied customer.
My point of pain, is my TradeMark ATD3 (D cubed). Slower is faster, pay attention to detail. Care for each other, work together.
How can you make a difference today?
